Not the “make your bed everyday” and “go to the gym” type of 2017 goals. But, those are good too.

Stop Talking About Running
I’m going to cut straight to the point- let’s stop making running about us. It’s not about us and it never has been.
I’ll be the first to admit that I get it. It’s exciting to talk about the races you’re training for, latest PR, training techniques, local running courses, new shoes, and the latest article in Runner’s World about the cross training you should be doing but aren’t. And don’t even get me started on the warm up and cool down (What? People really do that?)
These are hot topics amongst the running community, and for good reason. It’s very exciting! It brings people together! We get each other on a level of crazy that most people will never understand. I never want to not have these conversations.
Running is freaking hard. But friends, we can not make it about ourselves. Our bodies will fail. Our legs will get injured. We will have a terrible run (or two). And we will not always do well in the race we were sure to PR in. If we make it about ourselves we will only be disappointed and devastated when running neglects to satisfy us… and it will in one way or another.
Guys, let’s start talking about the One who gives us strength. The One who made these incredible bodies in His image to endure such physical challenges (i.e. “the long run”). Let’s change the course of the conversation to honor the One who gives us the ability to wake up everyday to see the sun and put one foot in front of the other, no matter how fast or slow.
Jesus. Let’s talk about Him.
